Machu Pichu – 1 Day Tour

The most important place to visit on your trip to Peru or South America is Machu Picchu which was discovered in 1911 after lying abandoned for centuries. To visit Machu Picchu during this One (1) Day Tour you need to be present in Cusco at least the night before. Because this one day tour is very exhausting we also offer a more comfortable Two Day Tour and furthermore a Two Day Tour combined with The Sacred Valley.

We will pick you up in your hotel in Cusco early in the morning and head out in bus (1 hour) to Ollantaytambo where we will board the train to Aguas Calientes. In this picturesque little town we will catch an early morning train on one of the world’s most beautiful railway journeys. The scenery is spectacular with wonderful views of the mountains of the Andes. As the train descends further and further into the beautiful Urubamba Valley, becoming narrower by the minute we will notice that the vegetation becomes increasingly tropical. It is here in in the middle of this lush vegetation that we will find the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. The train ride will last more or less 1 hour and 40 minutes and ends in Aguas Calientes, situated at the base of Machu Pichu.   The citadel wasn´t discovered until 1911 because it is constructed in such ways that it is impossible to even catch a glimpse from bellow. To be able to see Machu Pichu we will take a bus in Aguas Calientes that will bring us in 30 minutes, on a twisting road, to the entry gates of the Sactuary of Machu Picchu also known as the Lost City of the Incas. Upon arrival at the Sanctuary of Machu Pichu we will pass control with our guide(s) and start our 2 hour guided tour that covers almost the entire Inca complex: We will pass through the urban / city area of the site and then visit the typical Inca terraces that were used for agrictultural purposes. Finally we will visit the Sacred and religious section of Machu Pichu where we can see the famous solar dial / solar clock or also called Sun Clock. After the guided tour you are free and if desired you could climb the mountain peak overlooking Machu Picchu, which is called Huayna Pichu. From here you have a spectacular view over the entire Inca site. Due to recent safety regulations it is no longer possible the climb the Huayna Pichu without a special entree ticket. Nowadays the only allow 2 small groups of 300 people each – one group to climb the peak at 08:00 a.m. and another group at 10:00. Because of the fact that this is a very popular attraction it is necessary to indicate already during the booking of this tour – indicating you desire to include the Huayna Pichu or not.   After our long day in Machu Pichu we will take the train back of 19:00 (7 p.m.) towards Ollanta / Poroy and from there in bus back to Cusco. It is possible to take an earlier train or more luxurious trains – like for instance the Hirham Bingham know as one of the most spectacular and luxurious train rides in the World – if so desired (Extra cost depending the train / time schedule and service, feel free to inform).
